Persistent Action
Change is a constant--it brings both new challenges and new triumphs. It is important to fight for change with determination, because change does not happen overnight. Issues are always at risk of resurfacing, and a few days of protest do not guarantee permanent solutions. You have to make sure that all the gains we have fought for and won today are carried into the next generation. We achieve greatness through constant improvements, no matter how difficult the solutions are. Immediate action lights the fires of change, but it’s persistence that keeps them burning.
Persistent action means standing with all those who start a movement and following it to its conclusion. Movements bring the greatest change when more people are informed and educated and continue to demand change. We must honor the efforts of the earliest organizers and find a way to make sure that the loudest initial shout does not become a distant echo. It takes all types of action to build the world we want, and you have a place in that effort. We are part of a revolutionary moment, and as citizens of the United States, we must do our part in creating the country that we can all be proud to live in. Corruption and injustice do not easily tire, and so we must meet that challenge with tirelessness of our own. It is our duty to join together to empower those who have been wronged and discriminated against. It is important to act quickly, but we must also work persistently. You are the key to making sure that the future is more than the vicious cycles of the past. |
I will persist until I succeed. Always will I take another step. If that is of no avail I will take another, and yet another. In truth, one step at a time is not too difficult. I know that small attempts, repeated, will complete any undertaking.
